SenzaDimoraFissa

Collaboration

SenzaDimoraFissa was a temporary and experimental collective laboratory active in Prato between 2006 and 2009, initiated by Andrea Abati and Dryphoto Arte Contemporanea as a platform investigating the relationship between artistic practices and the urban environment. Conceived as a starting point for mapping “the city of the many,” the project brought together artists working through listening, observation, conviviality, and site-responsive interventions within the social fabric of the city.

Through exhibitions, urban actions, and collective research, Senza Dimora Fissa approached the city as a shared field of inquiry and imagination, exploring questions of citizenship, migration, belonging, and urban transformation. The first major outcome of the project was macrolotto_zero (2006), followed by Chinese New Year (2007), a series of artistic interventions developed in response to debates surrounding the visibility and presence of the Chinese community in Prato.

Participants included Andrea Abati, Simone Bizzi, Augusto Buzzegoli, Stella Carbone, Vittoria Ciolini, Alessandro Colzi, Diego Doretti, Alex Lin, Silvia Masi, Luca Sguanci and myself.

As part of Raccolte / Archivio Aperto by Dryphoto Arte Contemporanea, I recount the experience of Senza Dimora Fissa in this video (in Italian). Here the slides.

Projects

17.06/2006 macrolotto_zero curated by Daria Filardo @Dryphoto arte contemporanea – Trattoria Ars Libandi – Monash Univeristy Prato Centre – Doner Kabab – Giardini di via Colombo – Via delle Segherie, Prato

macrolotto_zero was a collective project developed in 2006 within the rapidly transforming district of the same name in Prato, an area where industrial spaces, residential buildings, and the city’s Chinese community coexist. Through walks, observations, images, videos, and site-specific actions, artists used the neighborhood itself as a shared field of inquiry. Here the publication and the map. ph. Andrea Abati.

18.02/2007 @via Pistoiese, Prato, Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year was a series of public actions organized by Senza Dimora Fissa in response to the decision of the Prato municipal administration to relocate the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations to the local contemporary art museum, away from the city. Conceived as a reflection on visibility, belonging, and the right to public space, the project included urban interventions, distributed images, and a performative action by Augusto Buzzegoli, who slowly walked the route of the cancelled Dragon Parade, temporarily reactivating its presence through an act of public dissent.
